APT Preparatory Work for World Telecommunication Development Conference-2010

The World Telecommunication Development Conference is the forum for the discussion and consideration of topics, projects and programmes relevant to telecommunication development and for the provision of direction and guidance to the Telecommunication Development Bureau of the ITU. The conference is held every four years. The fifth World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-10), will take place in Hyderabad, India from 24 May to 4 June 2010 (consultation of Member States is underway) with participants to include government delegates, Ministers, Ambassadors and representatives from the private sector, as well as regional and international organizations. The Conference will provide the opportunity to review the programmes and activities of ITU-D as well as to set the agenda for the following four-year cycle.

APT has played a key role in coordinating the Asia-Pacific input to the World Development Conferences in the past. Similarly, APT will be coordinating the regional input to the fifth World Development Conference (WTDC-10). The preparatory work is done through the Preparatory Group for WTDC-10 established at the 1st Preparatory Meeting held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 8 May 2009.

APT will have 3 Preparatory Meetings for the WTDC-10. The second preparatory meeting will be held in Bangkok from 1-4 December 2009.

To assist members in the preparatory work, APT has established e-mail reflector (apt-wtdc10@apt.int) which should be used to submit documents for the preparatory group for WTDC-10. If any APT Member Administration wishes to join the e-mail reflector, please send nomination to policy@apt.int.

The APT Secretariat provide will support in arranging the preparatory meetings, facilitating liaison among APT members, other Member States and with other regional organizations, and also in providing practical assistance and support to the delegations of APT Members.
