INTRODUCTION

The APT Operators Forum (AOF) was established by the 28th Session of the APT Management Committee in 2004. AOF will provide a platform of close cooperation among the telecommunication and ICT operators, vendors and researchers in Asia-Pacific Region.

OBJECTIVES

The main objectives of AOF are:

  1. To provide a unique platform for close cooperation among operators, vendors, goverment sectors to create and maximize values and benefits in ICT
  2. To provide input on matters of interest to them and other concerned
  3. To promote business cooperation among operators and vendors
  4. to foster exchange of information on matters of mutual interest.

MEETINGS

The APT Operators Forum 2007 (AOF) was held from 25 to 27 April 2007 in Macao, China. The AOF is being organized by the APT and jointly hosted by the Bureau of Telecommunication Regulation of Macau and the Companhia de Telecomunicações de Macau (CTM).

The main objectives of AOF are to provide a unique platform for close cooperation among operators, vendors, manufacturers, government, regulators and other key players in the sector with an aim to:

- create and maximize values and benefits in ICT
- provide input on matters of interest to them and others concerned;
- promote business cooperation among operators and vendors, and other key players in the sector and
- foster exchange of information on matters of mutual interest.

In it's 3rd Meeting, the Forum discussed some important issues of interest and concern to the operators such as:

- spectrum allocation methodologies in view of the 3G requirements,
- effective regulation to promote the implementation of new technologies
- operator's view new business challenges
- WLAN based service
- tariff issues
- financial risks in new ventures and new services etc.
