The competition will be held in the following manner:

  • Entries will be invited from interested young professionals and students who wish to take part in speech competition.
  • The competitors will be required to submit a concise written speech in English on "Hi-tech really makes our life better?" The speech should be focused, concise and original.  It should be written in English and should be neatly typed on A4 size paper.
  • The competitors will be required to deliver his speech about 15-20 minutes long on the 10th August 2004.
  • A panel of judges will select the best speech.
  • Awards will be given to the best speech. Consolation prizes will also be awarded.

The speech will be submitted along with a paragraph of biodata of the author and a Registration Form by mail /fax / e-mail to the APT Secretariat before 31 July 2004:

5.       Eligibility

  • Should not be more than 30 years of age.

6.       Obligation

  • The Young Professionals and Students will be encouraged to contribute to the work of APT through electronic means in their individual capacity.  Their input will not be regarded as member's position or an official input from the members of the APT.
  • They will be encourage to contribute to APT activities such as:
    • Asia Pacific Initiatives for the Information Society (AIIS)

The AIIS Programme aims at promoting the development of Information Society in the Asia Pacific Region.  The AIIS programme consists of Pilot Project and meetings. Discussions are also held about the preparations for the forthcoming World Summit on the Information Society

    • The Study Groups (SG)

Under the Study Groups Programme a number of study questions of current interest to the APT members are studied. The study group activities are conducted on a voluntary basis by the experts round the year by electronic means.  An annual meeting of the Study Groups is also organized.

    • Policy & Regulatory Forum (PRF)

The Policy and Regulatory Programme is designed and implemented to address the key policy and regulatory issues in the telecommunication and information technology sectors. The annual Policy and Regulatory Forum is attended by top Policy makers and Regulators from the Asia Pacific region.

In addition experts on policy and regulation also address selected issues through electronic means.

    • APT IMT-2000 Forum (APTIF)

The IMT 2000 Forum deals with the various issues concerning IMT 2000.Leading experts from the Asia Pacific region exchange their views on the policy, technology and implementation aspects of IMT 2000.

    • APT Programmes on Radiocommunications

The Asia Pacific Preparatory Group (APG) on WRC is a well known APT Programme in the field of Radiocommunications.  It is attended by a large number of experts from the APT member countries and representatives from concerned organisations from other parts of the world.  The APG facilitates regional preparation and coordination on the World Radio Conferences.

    • Asia Pacific Telecommunity Standardization Program (ASTAP)

The ASTAP is a technology oriented programme and it deals with matters concerning telecommunication standardization. Experts from various member countries of the APT work on selected issues related to standardization of telecommunication and information technology. The output serves is also sent to the ITU standardization sector as contribution from the APT members.

    • APT   Yearbook and other publications

The APT Yearbook is a prestigious annual publication and it is regarded as a companion of all telecom professionals who are interested in the filed of telecommunications.

Other APT publications include reports of studies, proceedings of the APT seminars and meetings, The APT News etc.

    • Other APT activities

These include meetings and seminars at national, sub regional and regional levels, capacity building programmes, inter agency coordination and cooperation etc.

  • Young Professionals and Students who are interested to join the APTYPS activities are requested to submit the enrollment form.

7.                 Future Activities

·         Those Young Professionals and Students who do not want to participate in the speech competition but wish to voluntarily contribute to the APT work from their home are required to fill up the enrollment form and send it to the APT secretariat. The secretariat will provide the necessary advice to selected Young Professionals and Students for facilitating their voluntary contribution in appropriate APT programmes.
