The APT has developed a specific link on its website to promote awareness of the need for network security and the problems associated with spam.
This site assists Members to explore the policy and regulatory issues associated with network security, and the regional initiatives and cooperation that are required to achieve secure networks.
We hope that it will provide a platform for APT Members to be better placed to combat spam and network security issues and problems.
In today's interconnected world of networks, threats can originate anywhere. This means that national, regional, international cooperation is paramount to address cybersecurity and spam issues. A prominent risk to internet security is spam, which has mutated from a general annoyance to a broader cybersecurity threat.
Spam is now the primary mechanism to deliver viruses used to hijack millions of computers, to launch phishing attacks for capturing private financial information, and acts as a platform for many other types of scams.
A number of organizations worldwide are actively engaged in this fight, and the APT wishes to assist that process. Awareness of the numerous ongoing initiatives and overcoming overlaps or gaps is essential. In our endeavors to assist global cooperation in the fight against spam, the APT became an Associate Partner of the StopSpamAlliance in March 2007.
This APT is an active member of cooperative measures and partnerships for securing networks and countering spam.
The APT has, as one of its key areas of its 2006 – 2008 Strategic Plan, an objective to “Ensure network security and protection of privacy”.
