WORKSHOP ON REGULATORYCAPACITY BUILDING FOR THE PACIFIC ISLAND COUNTRIES
6-9 January 2004 - Suva , Fiji
With the vast regulatory reforms taking place in the telecommunications sector globally, there is an urgent need to strengthen and develop the capacity in telecommunication policy and regulatory matters of the Pacific island countries especially in a multi operator competitive environment.
In order to meet this need APT organized a workshop in association with the Australian Communications Authority for Pacific Island Member Nations to develop their regulatory skills. The Workshop aimed to provide Pacific Island nations with regulatory information and techniques, focusing on a range of topics that have been identified as being of particular interest to the sub-region. These topics include Telecommunications Licensing Arrangements, Numbering, Frequency Assignment, Australia's USO experience, Standards and Compliance, Consumer Protection and Awareness, Interconnection and tariff rebalancing etc.
This workshop also had the additional benefit of providing the participants with a unique opportunity to network with individuals from fellow organizations and countries in a similar position, as well as those countries further along the path to open competition.
