APEC/APT Standards Equivalence Workshop
The APEC/APT Standards Equivalence Workshop was held from 16 to 17 September 2004 prior to APEC TEL30, at the Plaza Parkroyal Hotel, Republic of Singapore. The joint workshop helped members of both organizations in exchanging information on standardization activities. This served as a good workshop for further collaboration between the two organizations.
The objective of the Workshop was to offer countries in the region an opportunity to share experiences in the area of standards equivalence. Standards equivalence is defined as the recognition of standards by an importing country as being equivalent, and therefore acceptable, to the standards of an exporting country. By having equivalent standards between countries, savings can be made in the testing of telecommunications products as testing need only be done by exporting countries.
The Workshop selected a number of product standards across APEC members, examine those standards and identify equivalence between economies where acceptance of standards may streamline and reduce the need for product testing. With APTEC TEL and the APT sharing common members, this joint workshop will encourage a majority of countries in the region to work together on a trade-related issue.
