APT Workshop on Telecommunications Trade Rules

The APT Workshop on Telecommunications Trade Rules which was held from 14th to 16th July 2009 at the Gold Coast International Hotel, Gold Coast, Australia. The Workshop is organized by the Asia Pacific Telecommunity and supported by the Extra Budgetary Contribution from Australia. The Australian Government’s Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy will host the Workshop.

The objective of the Workshop is to enable telecommunications regulatory authorities from developing countries to better understand the importance of trade rules for the ICT sector and its implications on the regulatory frameworks of the countries in implementing a more transparent and open ICT environment that would be attractive to investors. The Workshop will also elaborate on the WTO principles and trade rules and will focus on the bilateral and multilateral trade negotiations that are important to the Asia Pacific region.
